BASF wins further patent case in Brazil
BASF has won another patent infringement case for use of its insecticide, fipronil, in Brazil. The 12th Civil Court of Sao Paulo found for the company against Brazilian chemical company, Dexter Latina Indústria Comércio Produtos Químicos (São José Dos Pinhais), for patent infraction. Dexter is forbidden from selling or manufacturing fipronil-based product in the country. The company sold the pesticide product, Master Gel, containing the active ingredient. The same court found for BASF earlier this year against another Brazilian company, Insetimax, for infringement of the same patent ( Agrow No 583, p 2). That followed a similar success in 2009. BASF has started several legal actions in Brazil against companies for infringement of its patent there on fipronil.
