Five biocides gain EU approval
Five pesticides have been granted EU approval for non-crop uses under the EU biocidal products Regulation (528/2012). They are: the fungicide, cyproconazole, for use in wood preservatives; transfluthrin and synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide for use in insecticides/acaricides; and ethyl butylacetylaminopropionate and lauric acid for use in repellants/attractants. All five ais were in the EU review of existing biocides. They were cleared by the EU Standing Committee on Biocidal Products earlier this year (Agrow No 686, p 10). The approvals are effective from November 1st 2015 to allow companies and national regulators time to adjust to the new use conditions.
