Japan's eight-month agchem sales dip 3%

Japanese agrochemical sales fell by 3% to ¥257,505 million ($2,974 million at the current rate) in the eight months to May 31st 2010, according to the Japan Crop Protection Association. Sales were 6.3% lower for the first six months of the pesticide year (ending September 30th), and by only 2.7% by April this year ( Agrow No 597, p 24). Volume declines were steeper, down 7.6% to 143,553 tonnes. But that was an improvement on the 10% fall for the first six months and 8% for the first seven ( Agrow ibid). Sales were 5.3% lower at ¥17,861 million ($206 million) for May alone, with volumes for the month at 11,896 tonnes, the Association says. The pesticide year runs to September 30th.
