Monsanto expands US GM maize and soybean range
Monsanto has made a significant expansion to its genetically modified maize and soybean portfolio in the US. It will offer some 60 insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant Genuity SmartStax maize hybrids this year, which is about double the number available in the 2010 launch year. More than 45 Genuity VT Double Pro maize hybrids will be available in the Corn Belt this year, representing a three-fold increase on last year. Over 90 Genuity VT Triple Pro hybrids will be available in the south and parts of the Mid-West in 2011, compared with about 50 hybrids in 2010. The company will offer some 230 varieties of glyphosate-tolerant Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans, which is nearly three times the number available last year.
