Canadian container collection slips
Over 4.5 million empty pesticide containers of 23 litres or smaller were collected in Canada in 2010. That was similar to the 4.6 million collected in the previous year. Putting the numbers into context, the industry’s CleanFarms group notes that large areas of farmland in the prairie provinces were not planted with crops last year because of adverse weather conditions. Collections in the prairie provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan accounted for nearly two-thirds of the total. CleanFarms was set up in February 2010 ( Agrow No 585, p 17).
