Swedish police arrest anti-GMO activists
Swedish police have arrested nine activists who chained themselves to a barn in Vojakkala in northern Sweden in protest against the cultivation of BASF’s genetically modified amylopectin-starch potato variety, Amflora, in the area, reports Swedish newswire thelocal.se. The activists were released after interrogation pending charges. BASF is planting Amflora in Sweden and Germany this year for seed multiplication purposes for cultivation in subsequent years ( Agrow No 610, p 24). The company expects commercial launch in 2013/14 ( Agrow No 599, p 23).
