Brazil agchem sales going strong
Sales of pesticides in Brazil are running ahead of last year, industry reports. Agrochemical industry trade association, the Sindag, vice-president Peter Ahlgrimm, told the newswire, Agrolink, that “pesticides sales are up on last year in some regions if not by as much as fertilisers”. Sales of pesticides traditionally follow on from sales of seed and fertiliser, which are at record levels. The Sindag executive notes “great enthusiasm” in the market and across “all crops” following record harvests in highly priced crops in 2010/11. Agrolink reports that the industry anticipates a 5-10% rise on last year’s market. The Brazilian market topped $7,300 million in 2010 ( Agrow No 615 p 23).
