Argentine state body calls for endosulfan ban
Argentine state body Defender of the People of the Nation (DPN) has called for the immediate prohibition on sale and all use of the country’s leading insecticide, endosulfan. The DPN cites Ministry of Health reports on potential harm to human health, including from its reported carcinogenic properties. It further notes the recent Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants agreement to phase out use of the active ingredient over the next six years ( Agrow No 615, p 25), as well as its restrictions in 23 countries and prohibition in another 57. The DPN is independent of government. Its role is to protect the constitution, including its rights and duties.
