Certis Europe receives patent for A swirskii
Mitsui & Co's agrochemical distribution company, Certis Europe, has received a patent from the European Patent Office on the production methodology of the predatory mite, Amblyseius swirskii. The mite is used for biological control of thrips and whiteflies, using the prey mite, Suidasia medanensis. A swirskii is mainly used in pepper and cucumber crops but its potential is also being increasingly realised in cut flowers and ornamentals. Its ability to become rapidly established and suppress pest populations sets it apart from other beneficial organisms, Certis says.
