Chinese agrochemical companies suffer early 2011
Increases in the price of raw materials and labour costs seriously dented first-quarter profits of the 15 Chinese pesticide companies listed on the Chinese stock exchange, reports the Chinese newspaper, the AgriGoods Herald. Stricter safety and environmental protection regulations also weighed on profits. Of the 15 listed companies, only five saw a year-on-year increase in first-quarter profits, while nine companies recorded a drop. Production of chemical pesticides in China increased by 17.7% to 632,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2011 ( Agrow No 615, p 26).
