Bolivia not to promote but block GMO use

The Bolivian government has rejected claims that it is to promote the use and sale of genetically modified crops. President Evo Morales has this month brought into force the “Law of the Agricultural Production Community Revolution”. Government Minister Carlos Romero asserts that the Law does not promote the use of GMOs. “Article 15 of the new Law “prohibits emphatically the use and import into the country of GM seed”, Mr Romero says. “Rather [the Law] values the ancestral genetic inheritance of Bolivian food,” he adds.
