Indian court allows endosulfan formulations export
The Indian Supreme Court has set down conditions under which 34 pesticide manufacturers and formulators can export stocks of some 2,698 kilolitres of formulations of the organochlorine insecticide/acaricide, endosulfan. The Court banned the production and use of the active ingredient in May ( Agrow No 616, p 23) and later tasked an expert committee to examine possibilities of exporting it. In September, the committee recommended allowing current export orders held by domestic manufacturers to countries where its use is still permitted ( Agrow No 625, p 43). It reported available stocks held by manufacturers of some 1,090 tonnes of ai and 2,698 kilolitres of liquid formulations and listed 34 manufacturers and formulators. The Court subsequently allowed the export of the 1,090 tonnes of ai ( Agrow No 626, p 23).
