Bifenthrin to regain EU approval
The EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health has voted in favour of proposals to re-register the insecticide/acaricide, bifenthrin. The decision will allow the active ingredient to return to the EU market. It was phased out in 2011 as a result of a previous European Commission decision against re-registration ( Agrow No 582, p 11). However, the Commission’s latest proposals stipulate a seven-year EU approval, rather than the standard ten years, because bifenthrin has a potential to show bioaccumulation effects.
