INTERNATIONAL BRIEFS

China issues new pesticide industry policies - After a prolonged period of industry consultation, China has issued a set of new policies to govern its pesticide industry. The policies aim to have 50% of pesticide manufacturers operating from designated chemical industrial parks by 2015, increasing to 70% by 2020. By 2015, the number of pesticide companies should have been reduced by 30%, while the top 20 Chinese pesticide manufacturers should account for at least 50% of annual pesticide sales, reaching 70% by 2020. The policies also seek to aid innovation in the industry. By 2015, the top 10 Chinese pesticide companies in terms of sales should have established complete innovation pipelines, and should be investing 3% of annual revenues in research and development, rising to 6% by 2020.
