Siapa to market pethoxamid herbicides in Italy
The Italian agrochemical Isagro/Sumitomo joint venture, Siapa (Milan), has been granted Italian approval for marketing of two products based on German company Stahler International’s (Stade) pre-emergence herbicide, pethoxamid. Successor 600 (pethoxamid 600 g/l) is for use on maize and soybeans against a wide spectrum of weeds, and Successor T (pethoxamid 300 g/l+ terbuthylazine 250 g/l) is a pre- and post emergence mixture for use on maize. The active ingredient was granted full EU approval in 2006 ( Agrow No 500, p 8) and Italian registration this year. Pethoxamid originated from Japanese company Tokuyama and has been developed for the EU maize market by Stahler International. Isagro has distribution rights for the ai in Italy, Spain and Portugal as part of a 2002 deal with the German company ( Agrow No 414, p 1).
