UK approval for Sumitomo's Borneo

Sumitomo Chemical’s UK subsidiary, Interfarm (Doddington, Cambridgeshire) has received UK approval for its oxaline acaricide, Borneo (Yashima Chemical’s etoxazole 100 g/litre) for use on protected tomatoes and aubergines. The product has also received a specific off-label approval for use on protected ornamental plants. Borneo is a suspension concentrate acting against two-spotted spider mites ( Tetranychus urticae) and red spider mites ( Panonychus ulmi). Etoxazole was added to Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) in 2005 ( Agrow No 475, p 8). It was first launched in the EU in France in 2001 by Sumitomo’s French subsidiary, Philagro ( Agrow No 390, p 22).
