Agchem prices rising in Argentina

Pesticides prices are rising in Argentina, according to agricultural input supplier Stamatti chief Aldo Alcober in the Argentine newswire, Agrodiario. It interviewed agricultural input supplier Stamatti chief Aldo Alcober in July. He reportedly says that agrochemicals have “suffered various [cost] increases, some of which are important cases”. The majority are up by 15-20%, but the herbicides, atrazine and glyphosate, have risen by 100-125%, he adds. The prices of other inputs, such as fertiliser and seed, have increased more steeply in general. The executive expects wheat plantings to fall significantly and by more than official estimates. He anticipates rises in the area for soybeans and sunflowers, and a slight drop for maize. Mr Alcober says the surprise will be the increased area of sorghum. Government estimates are so far only available for wheat and barley.
