Bayer/PHC harpin gene deal

Bayer CropScience has signed a long-term licensing deal for the use of genes expressing harpin proteins against a broad spectrum of pests and diseases in brassica oilseeds. The agreement has been sealed with the UK bioproducts company, Plant Health Care (PHC - London). PHC will receive an agreed schedule of payments, but no financial details have been disclosed. The deal covers all regions except Canada, Mexico and the US. “Another company has the rights to the NAFTA area, following a deal with Eden BioScience, when it owned the rights to harpin, PHC told Agrow. The US EPA classifies the proteins as biochemical pesticides.
