Syngenta offers resistance test in Canada
Syngenta plans to offer Canadian growers a test for weed resistance to acetyl coA carboxylase (ACC-ase) inhibitors on a commercial basis next year. A pilot study this year found that Syngenta’s herbicide, Axial (pinoxaden), could be effective in many fields where resistance was suspected, the company says. The ACC-ase Mutation Analysis test found that 20 out of 65 fields with suspected resistance had no common wild oats ( Avena fatua) with resistance to Axial and 29 fields had low levels of resistance. Only 16 fields had more than 20% of the wild oat population with resistance to ACC-ase inhibitors.
