Japan poultry meat production steady
The production of poultry meat changed little between 2008 and 2009, reports the Japanese ministry of agriculture. The total number of birds slaughtered rose by 0.45% to 736 million, and total live weight increased by 1.7% to just over two million tonnes. The number of broilers slaughtered rose by 0.7% to 634 million, while for layer hens the figure fell by 0.5% to 92,600. The number of native meat chickens slaughtered fell by 5.4% to 28,000.
