Don't ban 1080 – NZ environment commissioner

New Zealand's Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Jan Wright, has published a report advising against a moratorium on the use of 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) to control mammalian pests. The pesticide is used to kill invasive species such as rats, stoats and possums which threaten the country's native wildlife and, in the case of the possum, are responsible for the spread of tuberculosis in cattle herds.
