Bluefin tuna farming expands in Japan

Two Japanese aquaculture companies, Maruha Nichrio Holdings and Toyota Tsusho, are investing in bluefin tuna farming to help supply the enormous demand for the fish in Japan. In 2009, the country consumed more than 40,000 tons of bluefin tuna, which is endangered in the wild. However, supplies of wild-caught fish will be more limited in future, as quotas are being cut in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific.
