PRRS threatens Vietnamese pigs
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is spreading from northern Vietnam into central and southern regions of the country. The Veterinary Department says that, since early May, the disease has spread to 12 of the country’s 58 provinces, infecting around 40,000 animals. Half of these have now been destroyed. The department said that the coming rainy season would encourage the spread not only of PRRS but also other animal diseases, such as food and mouth and avian influenza. Local administrations across the country have been asked to speed up vaccination against the diseases and to tighten animal movement controls, reports Asian Agribusiness.
