Germany makes Schmallenberg a notifiable disease

While the overall rate of increase of Schmallenberg virus infections in Northern Europe appears to be slowing, Germany, the country most affected by the new virus, has made the infection a notifiable disease. The condition that affects ruminants, causing death and deformity in new born animals, had been confirmed in 2,948 animals in Europe by the beginning of April.
