Feed additives boost Ajinomoto in first half
Tokyo-based Ajinomoto made a Y42 billion ($538 million) operating profit in the first half of the fiscal year to September 30, 2011, a 0.7% increase on the Y41.7 billion from the same period of the previous year. The increase was due in part to growth in amino acids for animal feed, particularly lysine. Rising demand for lysine pushed the market price of the amino acid from $2 per kg in 2010 to $2.30 this year. Ajinomoto says it had a 20% share of the global lysine market last year.
