Mitsui buys Brazil farms

Tokyo-based Mitsui & Co, one of Japan’s leading general trading firms, has announced that it has acquired 44.2% of the capital stock of MultiGrain, the largest agricultural and farming operator in Brazil, from CHS, the US agribusiness co-operative, for ¥40 billion ($400 million). The main stockholders of MultiGrain were Mitsui and CHS with 44.2% each. Mitsui says it is strengthening its agriculture business to cope with the vigorous demand for grain in the world, especially from China.
