Japan cuts back aquaculture production

Japan's National Seawater Aquaculture Association will cut the production of sea bream and greater amberjack nationwide in 2009. The association said those species had been overproduced last year, and that market prices were low. Exports to South Korea and China have also declined, it said. This year, the association will reduce the number of sea bream fry introduced to fish farms by 11% to 42.1 million, and the number of greater amberjack fry by 2% to 16.4 million.
