H1N1 reaches pigs in Japan

The first cases of pandemic H1N1 influenza in Japanese pigs were confirmed today after the virus was found during the routine examination of nasal swabs from 10 animals at a 1,000-pig farm in Osaka. The affected farm is under voluntary quarantine, and no clinical signs of disease have been found in pigs within a 10-km radius. According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), workers at the farm had not reported any influenza-like illness for at least one month prior to the incident.
