Ecuador to vaccinate 95% of cattle against FMD

Ecuador will conclude the second phase of its foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccination program on December the 18th, and expects to reach 95% of the country’s cattle population. According to the Equadorian Agency for Agriculture Quality (Agrocalidad), which is coordinating the vaccination, the country aims to achieve FMD-free status in the next two years The country has a cattle population of 4.5 million animals, and the vaccination program received a budget of $3.4 million, with the Government subsidizing part of the immunization costs for the farmers.
