Laboratory begins sales of bluefin tuna
Japan's Fisheries Research Laboratory has begun sales of young bluefin tuna to domestic aquaculture farms. The laboratory, based at Kinki University, has delivered a shipment of 1,500 fish measuring around 40cm and weighing 2kg. It expects to supply a total of 15,000 young tuna this year. In 2002, the laboratory hatched its first batch of fish after developing a method for producing tuna entirely in farms.
