Argentina extends FMD vaccination

Argentina has extended its national foot and mouth disease vaccination campaign until the end of June. All cattle in zones declared FMD-free through vaccination, which accounts for 90% of Argentina's cattle, will be immunized. The animals must be vaccinated within 60 days of the implementation of local vaccination plans, and a second injection must be administered within 180 days. Only vaccinated animals can be moved to different farms, says Senasa, the government agency in charge of animal health. Producers must also ensure that they have maintained the cold chain, which guarantees the quality and effectiveness of the vaccine, it adds.
