FMD vaccine sales reach 6 million in Mato Grosso

Sales of foot and mouth disease vaccines have reached 5.8 million doses in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso since the beginning of last month. Producers have until March 10th to submit certificates to the Agriculture Defence institute, Indea, verifying that their cattle have been immunized against the disease. Those that fail to do so will be fined R$63 ($37) per animal. The state expects to vaccinate 5.5 million animals by the end of this month. In 2007, 98.4% of animals younger than 12 months were vaccinated. In the past 12 months, Mato Grosso has been FMD free, says the federal ministry of agriculture, MAPA.
