UK launches new committee for farm animal genetic resource

The UK's Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs has established a new committee for the conservation and protection of farm animal genetic resources. The National Standing Committee will advise on policy concerning national livestock breeds, breeding systems and production. Its main task will be to implement the National Action Plan on Farm Animal genetic Resources. Professor Geoff Simms of the Scottish Agricultural College will chair the committee, which includes members from the industry and conservation groups. sita.shah@informa.com
