Cold weather kills livestock in Viet Nam

A cold weather spell has killed more than 100,000 cattle in northern Viet Nam, reports the UN news service IRIN. Officials say that poor farmers will be seriously affected by the loss of the animals. The government has pledged funding of $9.3m to help affected farmers, who could receive $64 for each cow or buffalo that died. It has also asked banks to reschedule or cancel debts owed by farmers who lost their cattle. However, many farmers claim that the funding is insufficient.
