US premises registration details released
The US Department of Agriculture has released a snapshot of its progress in registering all agricultural premises in the country. Premises registration is a key part of the US National Animal Identification Service (NAIS), which was set up in 2003 to help combat animal disease outbreaks. The other NAIS systems are animal identification and animal tracing. All parts of NAIS are voluntary, and signing up for premises registration does not automatically enrol farmers in the other two elements.
