Japan to vaccinate workers against bird flu:
The Japanese government may vaccinate around 6,000 health and border control workers against the H5N1 strain of avian influenza (AI). If the project is a success, a further 10 million medical and other key staff will receive the vaccine. Japan is reported to have stockpiled around 20 million doses of the vaccine. The last AI outbreak in the country, in 2007, saw tens of thousands of poultry slaughtered. jo.power@informa.com
