South Korea to lift US beef ban

South Korea has agreed to open its market to US beef, says the ministry of agriculture in Seoul. Restrictions on beef imports will be relaxed gradually. As a first step, bone-in beef from cattle under 30 months old will be allowed into the country from mid-May. Beef products from cattle of all ages will be allowed in at a later date. South Korea banned most imports of beef from the US in 2003 following a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy there. atsuohata@mue.biglobe.ne.jp
