Calpis to increase Calsporin production
Tokyo-based Calpis is to increase the production capacity of its probiotic feed additive Calsporin from 180 tons to 300 tons per year, it has announced. It will spend Yen 500m (US$4.1m) on increasing the production capacity at its factory in Gunma, while production at its factory in Sagami will be discontinued in March to rationalize the business. The company expects global sales of Yen 3bn by 2010. Calpis received EU marketing approval for Calsporin, produced by live spore cells of Bacillus subtilis C-3102, last September.
