UK bovine TB (tuberculosis) figures

In January and February this year, 1.3 million cattle in 12,366 herds were tested for bovine tuberculosis, according to figures published by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). There were 788 cases of the disease, compared with 703 in the same period last year, of which 354 were confirmed, 160 unconfirmed, and 274 unclassified pending test results. In total, 5,192 animals were slaughtered due to bovine TB, compared with 4,559 last year and, at the end of February, 6,932 herds were under movement restrictions.
