Equine infectious anemia outbreak in Uruguay:

An outbreak of equine infectious anemia has been reported in Uruguay, the first incidence of the disease since 1995. More than 303 animals on a farm on Itapebi, in Salto, were exposed to the disease, and one horse has been destroyed. The source of the infection is unknown. However, the seropositive animal that was culled came from a group of 12 horses in the Artigas department, in Paso Leon, which borders Brazil. Control measures include movement control inside the country, screening and stamping out; vaccination is permitted.
