Brazil to monitor migrating birds
A partnership involving researchers from Brazil's Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, the state of São Paulo and the Vale do Itajaí region has started monitoring migrating birds on the north coast of Pernambuco state. The project aims to detect and control any possible cases of avian influenza to prevent outbreaks of the virus. Similar projects are planned for other areas of Brazil. Researchers will monitor the flow of birds in and out the south, north and northeastern parts of the country. The next stages of the project will take place in the states of Para in the north, and Santa Catarina in the south.
