Neogen acquires Rivard to settle court battle
US firm Neogen has acquired the assets of Canada's Rivard Instruments in a move that will settle patent infringement lawsuits filed by Neogen's subsidiary Ideal Instruments against Rivard in the US and Canada. Financial details were not disclosed. Ideal and Rivard both manufacture detectable veterinary hypodermic needles that are designed to reduce breakage during animal injections. Unlike traditional veterinary hypodermic needles, the ones by Ideal and Rivard can be identified by metal detectors in meat processing plants if the needle breaks off in an animal muscle. Rivard and Ideal own or have pending patents in over 30 countries.
