Schering-Plough Animal Health launches pour on insecticide

Schering-Plough Animal Health (SPAH) has launched Ultra Saber, a pour-on insecticide to control horn flies on beef cattle and calves. SPAH claims that Ultra Saber is a new type of pour-on as it contains 1% lambda-cyhalothrin and 5% piperonyl butoxide. This combination is said to increase the effectiveness of the insecticide. In field trials, Ultra Saber was found to be the most effective treatment for reducing horn fly populations. It is also effective against lice, which can impact on daily liveweight gains and milk production. SPAH says that horn flies are a significant parasite, costing the US cattle industry some $730m a year.
