Viet Nam warns of high-risk avian flu outbreak:
Viet Nam has warned that the risk of an avian influenza outbreak is high in the southern Dong Thap province, after specimens from healthy birds tested positive for an H5 strain. The provincial agricultural department said in the local newspaper Youth recently that the situation was made worse because it was difficult to monitor the cross-border transport of poultry and to quarantine poultry transported to the province. The country's national agricultural ministry says that avian flu has affected 38 communities in seven areas in the province. Meanwhile, the southern Tra Vinh province has not detected new outbreaks for 21 days, meeting criteria to announce an end of outbreaks in its territory.
