THE US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) asked for public comment on Tuesday on a request by the world's largest grain exchange CME Group seeking government approval to clear over-thecounter grain swap contracts. In April, CME asked for approval for clearing of maize basis swaps as well as calendar year swaps formaize, soyabeans and wheat. It has also requested the CFTC permit CME and clearing member futures commissionmerchants to blend customer funds used tomargin, secure, or guarantee these contracts with other funds held in segregated accounts. Comments regarding these requests should be submitted before August 22, the CFTC said.
