Organic milk audit highlights feed supply weakness
USDA's Office of the Inspector General may have given the National Organic Program (NOP) a passing grade in its audit report ( http://1.usa.gov/16Ajywp), released last week, for how the program implemented a rule on access to pasture for organic dairy cattle. But the OIG reviewers also identified a significant ongoing weakness in the program; feed brokers are not required to be NOP-certified to ensure that organic feed is not commingled or contaminated.
