MIAMI, LONG BEACH HOST FSMA PUBLIC MEETINGS

Two busy port cities--Miami and Long Beach--will host additional public hearings on the new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) import regulations next month. The first meeting took place Sept. 19-20, in Washington, D.C., when the agency heard feedback on two important changes it plans to make to food import rules (see FCN Aug. 2, 2013, Page 1). The 175-page Foreign Supplier Verification Programs for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals ( http://1.usa.gov/17IkYpR ) and the 217-page Accreditation of Third-Party Auditors/Certification Bodies to Conduct Food Safety Audits and to Issue Certification ( http://1.usa.gov/1bqN8v8 ), released July 29, will make far-reaching import requirements and auditing standards for foods.
