Bioservices Business Development Manager

Bioservices Business Development Manager

Published: 26 February 2015

A rare opportunity has arisen to work within the Bioservices Division at the Moredun Research Institute, Edinburgh. This is an important national capability and resource that underpins the research and business activities of relevant parts of the Moredun Group, especially the commercial subsidiary company, Moredun Scientific.

The primary function of the Bioservices Division is to provide the highest standard of care for livestock and laboratory species involved in work relating to the development, testing and commercialisation of vaccines, diagnostic tests and disease control programmes. The activities within the Institute and the Division in particular provide a unique capability and facility for infectious disease research within Scotland, and is one of only a few within the UK.

Specialised facilities within the Bioservices facility include flexible animal accommodation providing differing biosecurity options, and include a high security unit where disease pathogens may be handled. Many animals are kept under the ASPA regulations, while others are maintained as flocks and herds for breeding purposes. Animals are kept in two farms: one a 128 hectare upland farm, and another 51 hectare lowland farm with specialised accommodation.

We are seeking an individual who will provide leadership in the Bioservices area with activities focussed on internal management of a team of senior staff and animal technicians, caring for both farmed and laboratory species, kept within a variety of housing and grazing systems. The post will also provide contributions to the Moredun Group’s external reputation, knowledge exchange and income generation through business development activities. These will include the promotion and marketing of specialised Institute facilities available to other research organisations and commercial companies, presentations to partners and stakeholder groups, and leadership of a newly developing area of clinical trials for livestock products.

The successful applicant will report to the Director of the Moredun Research Institute and to the Managing Director of Moredun Scientific and will participate in planning, co-ordinating  and delivering services relating to a wide range of animal work across the areas of activity within the Moredun Group with senior managers. They will work closely with the Named Veterinary Surgeon who has responsibility for the very high standard of health and welfare expected at Moredun which is underpinned by the provisions of ASPA.

Moredun Research Institute is a world-leading organisation focused on improving animal health through targeted research and knowledge exchange activities.  The institute is located near Edinburgh on a purpose-built research park in a scenic area at the foot of the Pentland Hills.  We offer an attractive benefits package, including a generous contributory pension scheme and six-weeks’ annual leave.

Salary range £50,000 - £60,000                                                      Ref: 01-02-15
